Yoga is a system of techniques designed to bring the practitioner into intimate relationship with their capital S- Self; the Self which exists beyond physical condition, life circumstance or obstacle. It addresses the very human condition of inner conflict brought about by seeking answers, purpose and connection. Through the practice of movement (asana,) breath (pranayama,) and various meditation techniques, one can achieve this goal. All yoga practice is designed to meet the practitioner where they are, and through consistent effort and curiosity we find our way back to our Self
Every teacher you encounter at the Hines Center is highly skilled at providing the best class for the practitioners that arrive for the class. This may include Hatha, Yin, Restorative, Flow, and others and in combination. Each teacher helps each student grow in their practice regardless of experience, strength, or flexibility. It is not about arriving. It is about practicing.

Writing the Self: Stories that Heal

Instructor: WriteSpace, Cindy Childress

$115 non-members / $95 for WriteSpace and Hines Center members

Time: Tuesdays from 6:30-8 p.m; April 25th- -May 30th
Ever wonder how writing could change your life? Come discover how the practice of writing can empower us to understand who we are, how we are made, and what we seek to say with our lives. In this workshop we will engage unique literary tools that let us reflect upon powerful incidents in our past and explore our memories through poetic language in order to discover meaning and healing. By building patterns of creative language and retraining our thoughts, we will work toward bridging the ruptures within the split self to reclaim a more unified whole and perhaps also disrupt unhealthy patterns such as overspending, emotional outbursts, the inability to say “no,” and other daily personal challenges. Each week we will examine a new aspect of the formation of our selves and study a new poetic device, and then we will apply what we have learned during dedicated writing time. We will craft drafts of new poems, consider the discoveries we encounter, and share our healing journey through writing together.
